President to lead local election campaign

COLOMBO : The Sri Lanka Freedom Party along with allies of the progressive front will fight en-bloc the local Government election which would be the acid test of the popularity of the Freedom Alliance Government since the election of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse as President.

Addressing SLFP provincial leaders at Temple Trees to consider the strategy needed to win the Local Government election, the President said he would give the leadership to ensure victory of the SLFP led progressive front at the local Government election.

President Rajapakse indicated that every effort would be made to work closely with all political parties aligned to the SLFP and he would bring together all progressive parties under one umbrella and fight for the SLFP's victory.

The President pointed to SLFP organisers of the local branches that he has taken the responsibility of strengthening the SLFP and that he would do his best in this regard.
