Pathan does a Zoysa
KARACHI, Sunday (Reuters) - India left-arm seamer Irfan Pathan
completed a sensational hat-trick in the first over of the third and
final test against Pakistan on Sunday.
It was the 36th hat-trick in test history and the first time the feat
has been achieved in the opening over of a match.
Pathan had Salman Butt caught at first slip by Rahul Dravid with his
fourth delivery, trapped captain Younis Khan lbw with a sharp inswinger
and bowled Mohammad Yousuf to leave Pakistan reeling on nought for
three.
Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is the only other Indian bowler to take a
test hat-trick, against Australia at Kolkatta in March 2001
Pathan became the second bowler to achieve the feat in his first over
after Sri Lanka left-arm seamer Nuwan Zoysa took three Zimbabwe wickets
in the second over of their innings at Harare in November 1999. |
