Navin, Nirasha squqsh champs

NAVIN Samarasinghe and Nirasha Guruge clinched the men's and women's title respectively at the 25th Finlay Rentokil sponsored senior national squash championships worked off at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium Courts.

The bottom seed Samarasinghe created a major upset when he defeated the top seed and the reigning champion Saman Tillekeratne in a gruelling five setter 9-7, 7-9, 5-9, 9-6, 9-5 after a battle which lasted for nearly two hours.

In the women's open final top seed Nirasha Guruge defeated Tehani Guruge in a four setter 10-9, 3-9, 9-5, 9-5. In the men's over 45 final T. Jayasuriya beat A. Amunugama, in the men's novices final U. Wijeweera beat N. Hemantha and in the women's novices final V. Gunatilleke beat B. Wickremaratne. - (C.D)
