Newspaper reports misleading - Government

THE Government has focused its attention on news reports which appeared in the Divaina and Island newspapers with regard to UNP Parliamentarian Professor G. L. Peiris.

The attention of the Government has been brought on the news report which was aimed to create a wrong impression among the people claiming that the opportunity of joining the Government by Professor G. L. Peiris and obtaining an important Ministerial portfolio was prevented.

The Government reiterates that Professor G. L. Peiris has not made a request at anytime to join hands with the ruling party. UNP MP, Professor G. L. Peiris has agreed to extend his support at anytime to implement the peace initiative successfully on an invitation extended by the President.
