Chamod gets a fine break

PROMISING cricketer Chamod Wickremasinghe of Isipatana College received a tremendous boost when he obtained a five year sponsorship package from Lion Breweries and the Fingara Cricket Academy.

He began his career at the NSCA coaching school in Ratmalana in the year 2000 and made his first overseas tour at the age of ten. He made a half century and captured two wickets in his debut for NSCA coaching school against the Bangalore cricket team and went on to win the Man of the Match award.

He captained the Isipatana College under 12 cricket team in 2003 and hit a top score of 135 against President's College and captured five wickets in the same match.

In 2004 he scored half centuries against Nalanda, St. Sebastian's, Moratuwa and De Mazenod, Kandana in the under 12 inter-school tournament.

Last year he collected a total of 452 runs in six matches in the under 13 cricket tournament including a career best 188 in just 88 deliveries against Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa.

He hoisted seven sixes and 27 fours during his innings and also collected 29 runs in one over. In addition he scored half centuries against S. Thomas', Mount Lavinia and Kalutara MV.
