Super League Volley ball C'ships:

SLPA - Army men and women in supremacy battle

SRI LANKA Ports Authority men and women spikers entered the finals of the Super League Volleyball Championship organised by the Volleyball Federation of Sri Lanka.

This year for the first time Dialog GSM has come forward to sponsor all three events played alongside the National Championships.

In the men's category Sri Lanka Ports Authority had four comfortable victories Sri Lanka Police 3-1, Air Force 3-0, SL Navy 3-1 and SL Army 3-1 before reaching the semi finals.

The other teams qualified to semis are SL Air Force, SL Navy and SL Army. Ports Authority face Navy in the first semi while Air Force and SL Army engaged in the other semis.

Port's Spikers lost the first set to Navy at 17-25 but made a strong comeback to win the following three sets to book their places in the final.

The Army-Navy game was a keenly contested one and it went on to the full stretch of five sets. Airmen won the first two sets but Soldiers in a strong bid went onto win the remaining three sets and the game to book their place in the final.

In the women Super League Championship too will see the Ports Authority and SL Army clash for supremacy.

Ports Authority girls defeated SL Navy three sets to one in the first semi final while women soldiers after a hard fight overcame Air Force Women three sets to two, the match going into full stretch. Here too the women from Air Force won the first two sets at 25-23 and 25-20.

Never say die women soldier with a gallant performance managed to win the balance three sets to find their place in the final. The Super League finals are scheduled to be played on February 26 at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
