Kadirgamar assassination case:
Suspect involved in underworld activities

A suspect in the assassination of former Foreign Minister Lakshman
Kadirgamar has been involved in underworld activities, the Colombo Crime
Division (CCD) probing the killing told court.
The five suspects Thamil Iniyam, Rengam Vinagam, Aiyar Rajkumar,
Ishotuor Arokkayanathan and Mutthiah Sahadevan were not produced in
court for security reasons.
Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarojini
Kusala Weerawardena yesterday refused an application for bail for the
five suspects and further remanded them till February 10.
CCD officials said Arokkayanathan was allegedly involved in
underworld activities.
Judge Weerawardena directed CCD officials to forward the items
collected during investigations in connection with the assassination to
the Government Analyst and submit a report to court on the next date.
Sub Inspector M.A.R. Rajapaksa of the CCD filing a further report in
connection with investigations said a special police squad had been
deployed to trace the main LTTE suspect allegedly involved in the
killing and to trace the weapon used for the killing.
Kadirgamar was assassinated by a sniper bullet fired by an
unidentified gunman in Colombo on August 12 night. |
