MNA's campaign, a success

MUSLIM National Alliance's (MNA campaign to collect 100,000 signatures to demand a separate Muslim delegation at the peace conference, had received overwhelming public support especially from Eastern Province, MNA leader Nazeer Ahmed said.

The Muslims in the Eastern Province have been the hardest hit in the ethnic war and the tsunami. 'We have been ravaged by the war and as if that was not enough the tsunami came along and left behind death and destruction in its wake. We know the agony because we have experienced it, said Ahmed.

The signature campaign received good response from both Muslims and people of other persuasions in Colombo where it was launched.

Commenting on this Ahmed said, people from all walks of life had realised that Muslims need a separate delegation at the peace talks.

In this protest campaign, the MNA also called for the immediate resumption of peace talks and an adequate power sharing mechanism for Muslims in any future arrangement. There can be no meaningful peace if the settlement is not based on justice for the Muslims.
