Nalaka's comedy to shed light on today's rat race

"Kaasi Malla", the latest stage play by emerging dramatist Nalaka Vithanage will go on the boards on February 10 at the Lumbini Theatre.

Nalaka says Kasi Malla is an original script in Sinhala structured with comedy situations. "For the characters, the whole story is a tragedy but for the audience it's a hilarious farce."

The drama is woven around Mahendra who has worked in a government institution honestly for a period of 20 years and he is interdicted owing to the false allegations by his colleagues. Desperate, he goes to meet his best friends and stays the night at a hotel. A thief who had stolen money comes to hide in this hotel and enters Mahendra's room.

Nalaka says these theatrical encounters are based on the present day society where people are engaged in a rat race to raise money and the problems faced by them in this competitive world.

He claims that the play has three songs and a good musical score which would appeal to the audience. Jayantha Rathnayake composed music for the drama while Upali Rupasiri will be participating to make this event a success with his thirty years of experience in stage lighting.

Nalaka noted that all actors, actresses and back stage supporters are very talented and well experienced on stage.
