Principal remanded for assaulting student

A school principal in Gampola was taken into custody on a complaint of assaulting a year 8 female student and detaining her in a room until school was over for the day.

The principal had assaulted the student and detained her in a room the whole day after a teacher had complained that Rs. 132 belonging to her had been lost. The girl was later admitted to Gampola Hospital in a critical condition. Her parents had also lodged a complaint with Gampola police.

The principal produced before Gampola Magistrate was remanded till January 27.
