State owned bodies will not be closed, privatised, says Ferial

STATE owned institutions will be not be closed or privatised, said Housing and Construction Minister Ferial Ashraff.

Speaking at a discussion to review activities of the Building Material Corporation (BMC) at the BMC Head Office, Sangaraja Mawatha, Colombo, she said the BMC will be revived soon.

"BMC does not have a large-scale capital to compete with local and international business tycoons. Yet we have a duty by the people to protect State institutions in spite of paucity of resources. Therefore the competence and dedication of employees and the management are essential", the Minister said.

Housing and Construction Ministry Additional Secretary G.W. Kodippilli, Housing Development Finance Corporation Chairman Yasim, BMC Chairman Lalith Andrahennadi, Working Director K.M.M. Siddhi and General Manager K. Manchanayke attended the meeting.
