Observe Pongal as day of prayers
The All Ceylon Hindu Congress has appealed to celebrate Thai Pongal
as an event of prayers.
The All Ceylon Hindu Congress in a message said:
"The dawn of the months of Thai always paves way for prosperity. This
is the belief of our ancestors. However, we are in an unfortunate
situation that we are unable to observe this Thai Pongal with that
belief. Therefore, we only have one option that is to pray for salvation
of our people.
It has been customary to offer Pongal on Thai Pongal Day to the Sun,
which we worship as a form of the divine, thanking him for giving the
power to the produce in the fields. Accordingly the Pongal Day is a Holy
Day of prayers to His Almighty thanking him for showering His divine
power.
This day has also been hailed as a great day of Tamils. Hindus of
this country should appreciate the purity of the Thai Pongal and observe
it as a day of prayers.
Our people cannot enjoy themselves in celebrations and festivities on
this Thai Pongal. Each of us should pray on this Thai Pongal for the
salvation of our people." |
