Madri Jayasekara is Fashion Designer of The Year 2005
BY PRASAD Abu Bakr
THE Fashion Designer of the Year 2005 contest was a tough job for any
judge to go about with their duties as almost all the contestants that
took part were good in what they presented in all 4 sections that
comprised casual wear, office wear, saree wear and evening wear.

But in the end the panel of judges made their decision which was also
the unanimous choice of the large audience that gathered at the BMICH
that evening.
Beautiful Madri Jayasekara who is not just a designer proved that
evening that she can walk the ramp as good as any other in the field.
The designer's good looks seemed a bonus towards her goal of winning
which she achieved thumbs down.
The show choreographed by Chula Nanayakkara Ariyaratne who
incidentally celebrated her 50 years in the fashion industry and also
had the privilege of organising this event of which she was also the
pioneer organiser 21 years ago.
Her presentation for the evening titled `Bold and Beautiful' was well
appreciated by the audience. Ramzi Rahaman and his team did an excellent
job in way of hair and make-up right through the show.
His segment on hair fashions was enjoyed by everybody present.
Mallika Hemachandra one of Sri Lanka's foremost jewellery designers
presented an exquisite collection to compliment Chula Nanayakkara's
designer wear.
It was a grand presentation ceremony with the winners receiving their
awards from First Lady Shiranthi Rajapakse who was the chief guest that
evening.
'Designer of the Year 2005' was sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka.
Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. (ANCL) was the print media sponsor
