Evil elements sowing communal hatred - Vadivel

Certain evil elements were trying to portray an atmosphere of communal hostility against the Tamils in the South, especially the plantation people, in order to jeopardize the development work that is now been launched under the Mahinda Chintanaya, said Vadivel Suresh, Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition.

Addressing a media conference yesterday at the Health Education Bureau at Kynsey Road the Deputy Minister said that Mahinda Chintanaya was completely free of any communal outlook and envisaged prosperity to the country as whole.

He was surprised to find that some sections of the media were lending prominence to such wrong notions.

The Deputy Minister observed that Mahinda Chintanaya transcended communalism and embodies the lofty principles of President Mahinda Rajapakse for the social and economic welfare of all communities adding that all constituent parties of the UPFA government fully supported the policies based on those principles, he said.

He said that several welfare measures for the benefit of the plantation community were to be implemented in the near future through the Ministry of Estate Infrastructure, Housing and Community Development.

Teaching appointments to nearly 3000 plantation youths which has been delayed due to an FR petition before the SC will be finalised within one month because the petitioners have agreed to withdraw the case.

Over 50,000 independent housing units will be constructed for the plantation people in the near future with all facilities including running water, access roads and electricity, he said.

Work on construction and rehabilitation of roads in all plantation areas, provision of water, electricity and healthcare facilities to the entire plantation community will be major projects that are expected to be undertaken in the future, the Deputy Minister said.
