Greetings to Cuba
THE Sri Lanka-Cuba Parliamentary friendship Association in a special
message to Cuban President Fidel Castro on the 45th anniversary of the
great Cuban revolution and founding of the independent Republic of Cuba
states:
"Before 1959, the Cuban people suffered from poverty, illiteracy,
hunger, disease and numerous social and economic problems. They were
oppressed by the world's super powers and the wretchedness of the
dictatorial rule that subjugated the people.
It is a well known truth that the great cuban revolution liberated
Cuba from subjugation, poverty and disgrace and gave Cuba independence
and the Cuban people dignity and an honourable life.
Among great difficulties due to historical and geographical reasons
in spite of harassment and regular threats from the so called world
super power gains of the victorious new republic of Cuba during the past
45 years are truly great specially we know that the public health
service, education and social welfare system of Cuba have been accepted
as global models.
The heroic struggle of the Cuban peoples to protect their country
from neo-liberal policies, economic blockades, political conspiracies
and terrorist attacks has been aspiration and encouragement to
progressive peoples of the whole world for decades.
Hence at this time when the 45th anniversary of the founding of the
great Cuban revolution is being celebrated the Sri Lanka-Cuba Friendship
Association would like to extend its warmest greetings to the great
Cuban people and the Government of Cuba.
Long live Cuba!
Long live friendship between Sri Lanka and Cuba!" |
