Five cops injured in LTTE attack

Five Police Constables were injured yesterday in two different incidents in Batticaloa as the LTTE in hiding continued attacks on the Security Forces and Police in the North and East, military sources said.

Four Policemen on a routine patrol in Petalai, Kalkudah in Batticaloa came under an LTTE grenade attack and were later shot at yesterday around 11.30 a.m. when passing the Sivam Kovil road, sources added.

The four policemen were admitted to hospital, sources added. In another incident, one Policeman was seriously injured when attacked by the LTTE in Batticaloa. Another escaped without injuries.

The two Policemen attached to the Urani Police station were attacked around 10 a.m. yesterday.

A group of soldiers transporting lunch to their colleagues came under LTTE fire at Arasadi junction area close to the Jaffna Hindu College, sources added.
