Thai Govt, Colombo Plan Secretariat launch environment programme

The Royal Thai Government and the Colombo Plan Secretariat have initiated a new Environment, programme which will initially cover three years from October 1, 2005. The Thai Government has allocated US 750,000-for this programme.

The programme will include both long-term and short-term training courses in a variety of subjects such as tropical wetland management, integrated coastal zone management, hazardous waste management, environmental health and environmental toxicology, said Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme Director Tay Bian How.

Sri Lanka Royal Thai Ambassador Karn Chiranond handed over a cheque for US$ 241,954.99 to Colombo Plan Secretariat Secretary General Kittipan Kanjanapipatkul at a ceremony in Colombo recently.

Chiranond commended the Colombo Plan's commitment towards the development of human resources in Colombo Plan member countries.

Kanjanapipatkul receiving the cheque from the Thai Ambassador expressed appreciation to the Royal Thai Government for the contribution to the Colombo Plan.
