Derana wins Reggie Candappa Creative Awards

Derana, the latest TV station with its creative logo, has made waves at the Reggie Candappa Creative Awards.

Derana was the only entry to be awarded in the 'best logo design' category at the recently held Reggie Candappa Awards where the industry's most outstanding creatives were selected and awarded. Derana logo won a merit award and was commended by the judges as the only logo that deserved to win an award in the category.

This recognition enhances the value of the logo and the brand it represents. Sri Lanka's newest and the most dynamic television channel Derana, takes pride in winning this coveted award.

Derana was launched at a time when the country was demanding quality entertainment that nurtured local values and ideologies.

The promoters of the channel were determined to design a logo that embodied the promise that the channel was making to the people.

It was in this spirit that the Derana 'Kombuwa" was developed which while being the first element in the word Derana (in Sinhala) also symbolised continuity, momentum, dynamism and creativity.

The logo was not a mere import but a simple uncomplicated and familiar homegrown symbol, familiar to both the villager and the town dweller whose mother tongue is Sinhala. The deep red colour that is associated with the logo represents our fertile land or 'our Derana'.

The traditional calligraphy style font is a take off from ancient temple paintings, unique to our land and its rich culture. As a composite, the Derana logo enjoys the unique distinction of being a strategically conceptualised and artistically reproduced to communicate a single minded message, a Derana news release said.
