Chilaw Marians founder President dead
It is with deep regret that the Executive Committee of the Chilaw
Marians Cricket Club announces the passing away of its founder President
Rev. Bro. Edwin Ambrose on Christmas Eve.
Rev. Bro. Ambrose who was ailing for some time was chiefly
instrumental in forming the Chilaw Marians Cricket Club in 1975, to
participate in the then Daily News Trophy.
He continued to be the President up to 1980, maintaining a dual role
as a player too. Bro Ambrose was also the Principal of St. Mary's
College Chilaw from 1968 to 1980 and was the driving force in the field
of cricket in the area instrumental in assisting many talented
cricketers to emerge.
Chilaw Marians Cricket Club which commenced as a Div. 111 club, is
currently a first class cricket club in the country and is the only
first class club in the Puttalam District, which was a dream come true
for the late Rev. Bro. Ambrose.
Bro. Ambrose who was also to be felicitated by the club in a recent
ceremony at the Colombo Hilton, was forced to miss it due to ill health.
The Funeral Service of Rev. Bro. Ambrose took place on December 26 at
the Chapel of the De LaSalle Brothers at Modera. |
