Reconstruction work on Mahamodera Hospital begins today

THE re-construction work on the Mahamodara Hospital, Galle affected by tsunami tragedy will be inaugurated today by Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayake, Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and a group of representatives from the Helmutt Khol Foundation, Germany.

The Helmutt Khol Foundation of Germany has donated Rs. 1,500 million to renovate the Mahamodara Hospital as a special maternity hospital.

The proposed hospital will comprise of a complex of buildings including six storeyed main building. "It will be a fully-pledged maternity hospital with all the required facilities," a Ministry spokesman told the Daily News.

Southern Province Governor Kingsley T. Wickremaratne and Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva will also attend the ceremony.

The representatives of the Helmutt Khol Foundation, Germany comprises Dr. S. Holfhott Ptortner, Dr. G. Scheid, K. Saeizer, H. Parsch, Prof. Hans Jochim Strimatter, Petra Strimatter and Kathrina Strimatter.
