University of Moratuwa win 'hSenid' award

The winning group of the competition was from the University of Moratuwa, faculty of IT and won the hSenid all Island Mobile Software Competition 2005 organized by hSenid Software International, a leading provider of wireless solutions in Sri Lanka, held recently at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.

The university application was , "Easiest Road Finder" a SMS based road finder system, which works based on traffic and time based values to identify best matching path to a specified location given by the user.

The first runner up group was from the University of Peradeniya, faculty of Engineering for the university for there "Location based system" for mobile phones which provides the nearest services such as hospitals, police, restaurants.

The second Runner up group was from University of Moratuwa, for the university for there solution "gVoice" an internet based chat application for mobile phones. The main objective of hSenid was to encourage undergraduates to design and develop innovative mobile application as well as to help them to gain exposure to the real-world scenarios in software development by providing them industrial guidance and support.

Speaking at the ceremony the chief guest, CEO and Managing Director of ICT Agency Manju Hathotuwa, said that in today's fast moving world, mobile solutions have taken a leading step forward and hSenid coming forward in promoting this technology to the youngsters in the IT field would encourage Sri Lankan talent to grow in this area.

Over hundred applications from various universities and institutes were submitted for the islandwide mobile software competition 2005.

The three finalists got a unique opportunity to present their solutions live to an exclusive audience comprising of top executives from the mobile network operators, banks and other industry players and an exclusive audience comprising University Deans and Head of departments of all the universities in Sri Lanka, Senior Management from the ICT Agency.
