CAA tips scales in favour of consumer

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has launched a special programme to clamp down on errant traders in view of the festive season.

CAA Chairman Sarath Wijesinghe said the Authority has expanded its monitoring and raiding activities from November to protect the consumers from unfair trade practices which take place on a large scale during the Christmas and New Year season.

"We are paying special attention to areas like Pettah and other places in Colombo where trade increases in the festive season. During raids carried out in November alone the Authority was able to nab 225 errant traders," he said.

Meanwhile the CAA has nabbed around 1,000 traders guilty of unfair trade practices this year and received over Rs 1.5 million as fines.
