US envoy to open playground for tsunami affected Children

U.S. Ambassador Jeffery J. Lunstead and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Director Carol Becker will inaugurate the first of eighty-five U.S. designed playgrounds in Galle on the somber first anniversary of the Boxing Day tsunami.

Galle Mayor Mohammed Ariff, Sarvodhya Director Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne and American Jewish Joint District Committee representative Mandie Winston will also make remarks before the municipality's children who are invited to enjoy their new community playground. The American Jewish Joint District Committee is a joint sponsor of the playgrounds, and Sarvodhya is the implementing partner.

The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m in Dharmapala Park in Galle on December 26.
