Sathosa revived as Lak Sathosa

Consumers will be able to purchase a range of essential food items including rice, flour, dhal, potatoes, onions and dried fish at reasonable prices when the State owned Lanka C. W. E. Ltd opens Lak Sathosa outlets shortly.

On President Mahinda Rajapakse's instructions the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs will open Lak Sathosa outlets throughout the country to provide relief to the public grappling with the high cost of living, said an Information Department release yesterday.

The first Lak Sathosa outlet will be opened by Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Marketing Development and Highways Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle at No. 108, Rajapakse Broadway, Negombo at 11.30 a.m. today.

The Ministry plans to open 50 Lak Sathosa outlets between January and the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The number of outlets will be increased to 130 by end 2006.
