Rape and murder of girl : President to appoint two member committee

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday told the Parliament that President Mahinda Rajapakse has asked a full scale report from the Inspector General of Police on rape and murder of a young girl in Jaffna.

Responding to the special statement made by TNA Parliament group leader R. Sampanthan yesterday in Parliament, accusing the Sri Lanka Navy for the incident, the Premier said the President has directed the IGP to submit a full scale report inquiring into the allegations made by the TNA MPs.

The TNA accused the Sri Lanka Navy for the rape and murder of girl in Punkudutivu, Jaffna. "On receipt of the report from the IGP the President will appoint a two member committee to go into the incident and submit a detailed report", he added.

He said ex Supreme Court Judge Jayawickrema and ex diplomat Javd Yusoof will be appointed as the members of the committee.

The Premier said the Government vehemently condemn all types of murders whoever and wherever it had taken place.
