Rape and murder of girl : President to appoint two member committee

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday told the Parliament
that President Mahinda Rajapakse has asked a full scale report from the
Inspector General of Police on rape and murder of a young girl in Jaffna.
Responding to the special statement made by TNA Parliament group
leader R. Sampanthan yesterday in Parliament, accusing the Sri Lanka
Navy for the incident, the Premier said the President has directed the
IGP to submit a full scale report inquiring into the allegations made by
the TNA MPs.
The TNA accused the Sri Lanka Navy for the rape and murder of girl in
Punkudutivu, Jaffna. "On receipt of the report from the IGP the
President will appoint a two member committee to go into the incident
and submit a detailed report", he added.
He said ex Supreme Court Judge Jayawickrema and ex diplomat Javd
Yusoof will be appointed as the members of the committee.
The Premier said the Government vehemently condemn all types of
murders whoever and wherever it had taken place. |
