Association of Graduates thanks Education Minister

THE Association of the Graduates Recruited for the priority activities of the Government has thanked the Minister of Education for pledging to solve the problem of 2900 graduates recruited to the Ministry as non-academic staff in 1999 by amalgamating them to the teacher service.

The Association in a press release said it had earlier restored to various trade union actions to gain some form of recognition to these graduates who had now completed 6 years service.

When President Mahinda Rajapakse was Prime Minister he too intervened in this matter and recommended that they be amalgamated to the teaching service, but the then Minister of Education and Ministry Secretary failed to accede to that request.

The Association is thankful that the present Minister of Education has pledged to solve this problem by submitting a cabinet paper to amalgamate these graduates to the teacher service at a meeting he held with the Lanka Guru Seva Sangamaya on December 8.
