New steps to upgrade quality of education in the NCP

"Although about six decades have passed since the introduction of Final Education and large amounts of money have been spent on it, many more things have to be done to make eduction, a fully fledged intellectual development, North Central Province Governor and the Central Province Acting Governor, Dr. Jagath Balasooriya made these observations addressing the gathering at 'Diriya Guru Sisu Pranama Ulela' held at Rambewa, Salimbapura Muslim Vidyalaya, Anuradhapura."

The ceremony was organised by the Principals' Union of the Rambewa Educational Region under the instructions of Rambewa Regional Education Director Luxman Dikkumbura.

Kallanchiya School Principal Ven. Meemalwewa Wimalatissa Thera, the Chief Incumbent of Kapirikgama, Thumbaruk Raja Maha Viharaya administered the participants in Pancha Seela.

A Muslim religious dignity of the Jumma Mosque attended to Muslim religious rites.

"The first Prime Minister of independent India, Sri Javaharlal Nehru has expressed the idea that money spent on education in real term, is an investment made on behalf of the future generations of the country. This philosophy is not confined to India, it is applicable to us too.

"North Central Province is the largest province in the country. Poorest of poor people also live in this province."

"There is a dearth of science, maths and English teachers in this province.

Whenever these teachers are given appointments to schools are from next day onwards they spare no stone unturned to get transfers to their home towns or congenial areas.

This issue arises as schools in remote areas lack most fundamental facilities. Our endeavour is to resolve this problem to the best of our ability. If it is not done quality of eduction will deteriorate.

"One way of tackling this problem is to find Advanced level and Ordinary Level qualified individuals from these areas, train them appropriately and appoint them to the teacher vacancies existing in such areas.

They will only be too glad to serve in their home towns and villages", Dr. Balasooriya said. Those who have passed Year 5 Scholarship Exam received prizes from the Governor.

Rambewa Regional Education Director Luxman Dikkumbura, Principal of Muslim Schools M.Y. Wahab, Principal of Diviyavetunuwewa School M. Jayaratna also spoke.
