Indo-Lanka Naval joint exercise

Indian High Commissioner Nirupama Rao, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Chief of Defence Staff Admiral D. W. K. Sandagiri, the Service Chiefs of the Sri Lanka Armed forces and the visiting Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command of India Vice Admiral Suresh Mehta went onboard Indian Naval Ship Sukanya, as distinguished visitors to witness the joint exercise of the Sri Lanka and Indian Navies, code named 'SLINEX' yesterday.

The Indian Naval Vessels INS Sukanya, INS Kiripan Indian Navy Dronier Maritime Patrol Air Craft and Sri Lanka Naval vessels, SLNS Sayuru, SLNS Samudura, SLNS Prathapa and few other Fast Attack Craft took part in the exercise.

This fleet exercise was appropriately structured to increase Indian and Sri Lankan Naval inter-operability and professional exchange, where more than hundred officers, under trainees and thousand sailors took part.

The joint exercise was carried out in the West coast of Sri Lanka and Contraband Control and Maritime Interdiction operation, Visit Board Search and Seize, Close Range Anti Air Craft Firing, Casualty Evacuating Exercises were carried out during the exercise.
