CIMA Community Leaders Awards to recognise education initiatives

THE Community Leader Awards programme, which was launched in 2004, is aimed at bringing the private sector and community together in a long-term partnership that would steer responsible business ethics and future development of the country, said CIMA Sri Lanka President Lalith Fonseka at the CIMA-Business Club launch of Community Leader Award 2006 held recently.

The CIMA President said that the Community Leaders Awards is an annual CSR project driven by CIMA and the Business Club with a different theme each year, which recognises companies for a different aspect of their CSR programme that impacts on the community management and recognised and rewarded nine Sri Lankan companies who excelled in the implementation of efficient and effective waste management programmes.

This year they are seeking to recognised and reward companies that support and fund "education initiatives." The project would also help to raise awareness on the need for corporates to support "education for the needy" in Sri Lanka.

The awards will be presented at the end of February 2006.

CIMA Executive Director Upali Ratnayake, HR Director Unilever Sri Lanka Limited Dr. Anura Ekanayake, Community Leader Awards Committee Chairman M.B.M. Farhan and Ms. Padmini Ranaweera also present at the launching ceremony.
