Sri Lankans protest against LTTE in Geneva
A demonstration was held opposite the United Nations Office in Geneva
on Saturday afternoon by Sri Lankan expatriates against human rights
violations of the LTTE.
The demonstration was organised on the occasion of the Universal
Human Rights Day which fell on December 10. This is the first time that
Sri Lankans from all communities, Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim publicly
opposed the Tiger terrorist group.
Protestors from France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland gathered in
Geneva despite the severe cold to call upon the United Nations to put a
stop to the human rights violations and crimes against humanity
committed with impunity by the LTTE.
They were holding placards calling for the European Union and
Switzerland to ban LTTE, to get the LTTE to lay down arms and come to
the negotiating table.
They said that the LTTE has killed prominent Tamil political leaders
including Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgarmar and Dr. Neelan
Thiruchelvam as well as other Tamils who speak against the LTTE and that
the LTTE is not a Liberation Movement but a terrorist outfit.
The Protesters handed over to the UN Office, an appeal addressed to
UN High Commissioner of Human Rights revealing the LTTE's true face. |
