Attorney Sarath Wijesinghe to contest for BASL Presidency

Attorney-at-law Sarath Devasena Wijesinghe will vie for the
Presidency of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka at the elections to be
held early next year.
Attorney Wijesinghe,is an LL.M (Lond) Public & International Law
University College, University of London.
He was in active practise as an attorney-at-law from 1973 to 1988 and
later as a Solicitor in England and Wales since 1991.
He has been engaged in a number of projects dealing with Public Law,
International Law,International Institutions. International Human Rights
Law, Criminal Law and Civil Law.
He also wrote a thesis on comparison of SAARC and EU.
A livewire among the legal fraternity Attorney-at-law Wijesinghe held
several positions in Sri Lanka and in the UK including Secretary Bar
Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), Administrator Legal Aid Commission,
Vice President Association of Sri Lankan Professionals in the UK, Vice
President, Association of Sri Lanka Lawyers in the UK and Chairperson,
SAARC Centre in the UK.
Sarath Wijesinghe contested the general elections in 1977 and was
appointed representative of the SLFP in the UK and Europe in 1994. |
