CIS - cager champions
The under 19 girls & boys Inter International Schools Basketball
tournament came to an end when the final matches were played at the
British school in Colombo at Elvitigala Mawatha last Friday. There was a
big crowd, in attendance, who were fortunate enough to witness four
strong teams fighting to clinch the championship trophies.
In the girls finals, the girls from the British School in Colombo who
were appearing in a final match for the first time in the history of the
British school fought against CIS. The match was closely contested. The
BSC who were leading up to the 3rd quarter lost the match by 04 points.
The scores being 51-47 in favour of CIS. At half time it was 23-20.
The BSC lost their star player Nele Hemker during the last quarter
with that they lost their chances of winning the match.
CIS too lost one of key players, Thusara Kaluarachchi but they
managed to survive until the end of the match.
For CIS Oshadi Karunaratne top scored with 20 points while Ashini
Nanayakkara and Onella Karunaratna chipped in with 12 points each.
Skipper Rumeshi Wijayakumara top scored for BSC with 18 points. While
Nele Hemker and Menaka Dharmapala scored 10 points each.
In the boys final CIS had an easy match against Alethea who had no
answer to CIS attacking movements. CIS won the final match by 87-48. At
half time it was 35-27. CIS boys combined well and with accurate
shooting made sure the victory was theirs. Sineth Weerasinghe of C.I.S
was in amazing form at shooting "Three pointers" and top scored with 25
points which included 15 points from "Three pointers".
Rahman Cader playing his usual best defended well and also scored 16
points. For Alethea Rasan Ruwanga fought alone in vain. He top scored
with 26 points. Best Defensive Player - Girls: Nele Hemker, British
School. Boys: Rasan Ruwanga, Alethea.
Best Offensive Player - Girls: Ashini Nanayakkara, CIS. Boys: Sineth
Weerasinghe, CIS. Most Valuable Player - Girls: Oshadi Karunaratna -
CIS. Boys: Rahman Cader - CIS. Dr. Kevin Dillow, the Principal of
British School in Colombo was Chief guest and gave away the awards. |
