Ferial briefs President on Eastern security

President Mahinda Rajapakse has directed the security chiefs to urgently strengthen the Security of Muslim and Tamil villages in the East consequent to an urgent meeting with Minister and National Unity Alliance (NUA) leader Mrs. Ferial Ashraff, a Housing Ministry news release said yesterday.

Ashraff briefed the President about the volatile situation prevailing in Kalmunai after killing of a father and son last night at Maruthamunai.

She also explained to the President that the ethnic amity between Tamils and Muslims has been enhanced after the tsunami last year. Some vested elements are working overtime to destroy this enhanced ethnic amity between the communities in the East.

She also stressed the need to stop the isolated killings in Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara districts.

The President directed all concerned to intensify security in all troubled areas of the East, the release said.
