AI Chief hails President's human rights stand
It augurs well for Sri Lankan people to have elected Mahinda
Rajapakse, a leader who is prepared to stake his life for the cause of
human rights as the President of Sri Lanka, said Amnesty International
Secretary General Irene Khan.
The AI Secretary General made this observation when she called on
President Rajapakse at Temple Trees on Monday.
Khan who discussed the escalated wave of assassinations by the LTTE
also mentioned the issue of child conscription by the LTTE.
She expressed optimism regarding the clauses incorporated in the "Mahinda
Chintana" as far as human rights are concerned and observed that the
proposals envisaged are extremely practicable and fruitful. |
