President - IAE (Sri Lanka)
A.G. Samarasekera was elected as the President of the Institute of
Automotive Engineers (Sri Lanka) at the Annual General Meeting held on
November 26, 2005. Samarasekera was graduated from Willesden College of
Technology, London in Automotive Engineering with distinction and was
awarded Diploma. He completed his graduate training for 3 years at
Joseph Lucas (Service) Ltd. Birmingham UK, leading auto-electrical
supplier to vehicle manufacturers, as a service reliability engineer.
Thereafter he was appointed to continue his career in Sri Lanka as
the Country Manager representing Lucas CAV franchise at Walker Sons &
Co. Ltd., Colombo who was the main distributor for Lucas - CAV and
British Leyland, for 18 years. At Walkers he served as Manager/Engineer
in various sections including Plant and Machinery Division apart from
representing for the Lucas - CAV products. Then he joined andserved
Klevenberg (Pvt) Ltd., who took over the Lucas - CAV agency, as a
Service Manager/Engineer for 16 years before the retirement.
Samarasekera was one of the conveners at the inauguration of the
Institute of Automotive Engineers (Sri Lanka) in 1988. He was elected as
the General Secretary in 1991 and continued to serve for 14 years in the
same capacity and then as Vice President for 2 years.
He represented IAE at the inaugural meeting of the Societies of
Automotive Engineers in Asia and Japanese Society of Automotive
Engineers Annual Congress in 2001 at Yokohama, Japan.
He was the Treasurer of the British Scholars' Association in Sri
Lanka at the British Council for 14 years and last year he was elected
to the post of Vice President. He is also the current Assistant
Secretary for Sri Lanka-Norway Society in Sri Lanka after serving the
committee in various positions. |
