Security net in Tamil Nadu to nab smugglers

Tamil Nadu security agencies have intensified monitoring movements of fishing vessels and boats leaving Ramanathapuram coast to prevent smuggling gelatin sticks and detonators to be sent to the North and East of Sri Lanka.

Fishing boats and vessels harbouring centres at Rameswaram, Danuskody. Thondi, Pamban Valinokkam, Mandapam and Kilakarai have been kept under a strict security net. Indian Coast guard vessels have started a 24-hour patrolling from December 1.

Permitted explosive dealers in Chennai, Madurai, Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram have also come under "scrutiny" to prevent the sale of explosives to non-permit holders.
