President has created renewed hopes for new Lanka : Mahanayake Thera
The Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddarakkhita Mahanayake Thera of the
Asgiriya Chapter said President Mahinda Rajapakse's policies and actions
have created renewed hopes for a new Sri Lanka where people of all
communities and religions could live in peace and amity.
The setting up of a single Ministry of Religious Affairs instead of
separate ministries for various religions by him is also a most
opportune decision which augurs well for the country's future, the
Mahanayake Thera said when a delegation of the Ministers Secretaries'
Union called on him at the Asgiriya Viharaya in Kandy on Sunday to pay
homage and receive his blessings.
The delegation led by Union Secretary Ajith Jayasundera comprised its
convenor Kumaradasa Giribawa, National Organiser Ranjith Malluwawadu and
several other members.
The prelate who noted that the President had filled his Cabinet posts
with most eminent and suitable persons, added that one could expect
President Rajapakse to launch a farsighted programme to solve the
country's economic problems with his maiden budget.
The Mahanayake Thera who emphasised that the President had taken
several important steps as regards the peace process, said it would be
most prudent to bring about a consensus among all political parties in
the march towards peace.
The Mahanayake Thera said the Presidential election had been
extremely peaceful compared to previous elections and thanked leaders of
all political parties for helping to make it so.
