New Army Chief assumes duties on Tuesday

NEW Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka will assume duties on Tuesday at 9.00 a.m. at the Army Headquarters.

The new Commander will be accorded a Guard of Honour. He will address Officers and other Ranks later. Lt. Gen Fonseka is the 18th Army Commander. Army Commander Lieutenant General Shantha Kottegoda will relinquish duties on Monday.

A farewell ceremony will be held on Monday morning at the Army headquarters. The outgoing Commander will address the troops, who will accord him a guard of honour.
