Malitha Kamal excels in karate

Malitha Kamal de Silva (16) of Negombo Angurukaramulla and studying at De Mazanod College, Kandana has excelled as a Karate champion.

He has won a total of 17 gold medals, 7 silver meals and 6 bronze medals at the various championship meets held in the years 2003, 2004 and 2005.

He participated in the International High School Karate Championship in India in the under-14 age category in the year 2004. He also participated in the Third International Karate Championship in the under-15 category and also in the same year he took part and won in the 1st International Shukokai Karate Championship in the under-16 group.

Subsequently he participated in the Asian International Karate Do Championship meet in India. Under the guidance of De Mazanod College senior coach Lakshman Saparamadu, Malitha has clinched several school and All Ceylon Karate Championships.

He has also participated and won Karate events in the Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation Junior National Championship meet and also in the Shitoryu Shukokai Karate Do Gishinkan meet. He has excelled in the Kata and Kumite Karate events in the various championship meets.
