Lake House journalists win health reporting awards

Three journalists from Lake House have collected the Best Health Journalist Award -2005 in all three languages, awarded by the Sri Lanka Medical Association for their contribution to health journalism.

SLMA organises this award annually for journalists covering health for their newspapers.

According to the official results issued by the SLMA, Shanika Sriyananda of the Sunday Observer (English medium), Champika Deepani of the Tharunee women's weekly (Sinhala medium) and Marlin Marikkar of Thinakaran (Tamil medium) have been adjudged the best health journalists for 2005 by the SLMA.

Marlin Marikkar has won the award for his article published in Thinakaran, Tuberculosis - a curable disease and Shanika Sriyananda has won the award for her article 'Kick the habit'. Champika Deepani has won the award for her article on high blood pressure.

The award presentation will take place today at Lionel Memorial Auditorium, Wijerama Mawatha Colombo 7, with the inauguration of the Foundation session at 6 p.m.
