Fifty eight arrested for US visa fraud

Police arrested 58 persons who attempted to obtain visas to the United States this year using false identities or forged papers, the US Embassy in Colombo said yesterday.

This was lower than last year when 84 were caught for fraud, the Embassy said. Improved technology and investigations were having a deterrent effect, it added.

The Embassy said in the past 11 months, it interviewed more than 13,000 applicants for immigrant and non-immigrant visas.
