Lack of competent managers cause for public sector failure: VC
by L.B. Wijayasiri in Kandy
The major cause for the failure of the public sector in Sri Lanka is
the lack of competent managers, Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor
Prof. Kapila Gunasekera said.
"It is 57 years since Sri Lanka became independent. Yet, we have
failed to get the services of competent and qualified managers, despite
Sri Lanka having better resources than Singapore and Malaysia," he told
the ceremonial inauguration of the orientation programme for the eighth
batch of students selected to follow the Master of Business
Administration Programme of the University of Peradeniya.
The event was held at the University's Post Graduate Institute of
Agriculture Auditorium. The Vice Chancellor said it was easy to get
paper qualifications and go to a politician and get a job in the public
sector. |
