Fertilizer subsidy sub-committee meets
The Fertilizer Subsidy Sub-committee met at the Prime Minister's
Office chaired by Premier Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday (30) to
discuss the strategies to supply fertilizers to the farmers at the
concessionary price of Rs.350 per bag of 50 kilograms.
Since the pledge given by President Mahinda Rajapakse in his election
manifesto has to be implemented expeditiously, the Premier decided to
appoint a special committee headed by Agriculture, Mahaweli and
Irrigation Minister Maitripala Sirisena with the participation of his
relevant officials.
The appointed Fertilizer Committee will include the Secretaries of
Agriculture and Finance and Agriculture Director General, Fertilizer
Secretariat Director and Commissioner General of Agrarian Services.
The Committee was directed to meet on December 01 at 9.00 a.m.
According to Finance Secretary Dr.P.B.Jayasundera, Cabinet approval as
well as financial allocations have already been obtained to supply
fertilizer at the price of Rs.350 per bag of 50 kilograms. |
