Afro-Asian Under-19 tournament:
Sri Lanka shock champions Pakistan
VISAKHAPATNAM, Sunday - Pakistan, the defending world champions, were
beaten by Sri Lanka in the opening round of the Afro-Asian Under-19
tournament in Visakhapatnam.
Sachitra Serasinghe (58) and Angelo Mathews (72) helped Sri Lanka to
post 209 after they had been wobbling on 82 for 4.
Pakistan's medium pacer Haseeb Amjad and left-arm spinner Imad Wasim
shared six wickets. Pakistan struggled against tight bowling, and the
pressure took its toll as they were bowled out for 169.
Ravikant Shukla hit a half-century as India started with a
four-wicket win over Bangladesh.
Set a target of 194, Tanmoy Srivastava (43) and Gaurav Dhiman (27)
gave India a rapid start, and Shukla then weighed in with 56 to guide
India home with more than 10 overs in hand.
"Chasing 194 is generally not a big problem," Shukla explained. "But
there were two things I had to keep in mind. One was the slow pitch, and
the other was the rush to make it in 40 overs so that we could earn the
bonus point. So, it was fun actually batting through all that."
South Africa had few problems in disposing of neighbours Zimbabwe
after bowling them out for 172. Donald Samunderu underpinned Zimbabwe's
innings with 74, but a modest target was easily overcome, with Daniedl
Pieter (66*) and Dean Elger (48*) guiding South Africa to a seven-wicket
victory. [Cricinfo] |
