JVP hails Mahinda's victory

THE JVP Politburo in a media release issued yesterday said the results of the Presidential Election has completely rejected the false idealogy that a Presidential Election cannot be win without the support of Arumugam Thondaman and Rauff Hakeem.

The election results have clearly shown that the country's future can be decided with the strength of all patriotic and progressive forces which rally round under one correct stand. A President can be elected to the country without surrendering to the demands of Thondaman and Hakeem, the JVP said.

The release said all patriotic forcers were firmly dedicated towards Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse's victory without depending on votes cast in the North-East areas under the intimidation of the LTTE.

Whatever steps were taken by the LTTE on the election, the firm stand of the patriotic forcers backed the Premier would have led to his victory under any circumstances. However, the UNP Presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe depended entirely on the LTTE to ensure his victory.

Prime Minister Rajapakse was backed by the Maha Sangha, patriotic forces, artists and other intellectuals.

Among those who supported Wickremesinghe were racketeers, owners of a large number of electronic and print media institutions, some fundamentalist groups and NGOs. Wickremesinghe has formed cliques with Hakeem and Thondaman.

He was politically stranded by the LTTE as they did to other political leaders who sang hosannas for the LTTE.

This Presidential Election has given a wide mandate to Premier Rajapakse to solve the country's ethnic problem while safeguarding the country's unitary status.

It can also be described as a mandate given to form a National Economy by creating a proper competitiveness between the State and private sector.

The election results have also confirmed that the UNP cannot mislead the people through various malicious propaganda campaigns telecast over its friendly private media mafia spending billions of rupees, the release added.
