A leader par excellence
THIS is a very fitting occasion for me to write
about her entry into national level politics. That was a time when
Sri Lanka was undergoing innumerable difficulties and in fact the
country was at cross roads. In 1994, when Chandrika Bandaranaike
Kumaratunga became the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and then after a
short period of three months became the President of Sri Lanka, the
country was drifting towards instability, both economically and
socially.

"WE have now reached an important stage of
deciding the future destiny of our land of birth. That is the
occasion of electing the next President of our country. You are
electing the most suitable person to be the President of the country
who will lead the country for the next six years. He is the leader
who will shoulder the task of administering the State.
