UNP committed to a united Lanka
by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi
The UNP yesterday reemphasized that they were committed to build a
united Sri Lanka which safeguards country's territorial integrity and
sovereignty .
"We in the UNP have always been committed to a united Sri Lanka while
safeguarding the country's territorial integrity," party Deputy General
Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press briefing at the Opposition
Leader's office.
He said while the UNP has clearly presented their stance over
resolving the country's prolonged conflict, the UPFA and it's
Presidential candidate are making different and contradictory
statements.
"They earlier said that the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) will be
abolished but now claim that they will amend it. Have they changed their
stance so fast?," Attanayake questioned.
He urged the UPFA and Premier Rajapakse to reveal his stance in clear
terms on the national question.
Former Military spokesman and UNP's Polgahawela organiser Maj. Gen.
Sarath Moonasinghe said there is an alleged attempt to disrupt polling
in the Jaffna peninsula.
"We have received reliable information that a group of army deserters
are to be sent to the Jaffna peninsula to create trouble aimed at
disrupting polling and to deter people from uncleared areas coming to
vote." added Moonasinghe. |
