DHL donates US$ 60,000 to aid tsunami rehabilitation in Seenigama

DHL, the world's leading express and Logistics Company, has made a donation of US$ 60,000 to the Gangaramaya Temple in aid of the ongoing tsunami rehabilitation efforts.


Area Manager, DHL Express, Emerging Markets (South Asia and Indochina) Roger Pritchard hands over the cheque to the Ven. Jinarathana Thera. Country Manager for DHL Sri Lanka Chaminda Hewamallika was present.

The donation to benefit the tsunami victims was raised by DHL employees from around the world, and has been matched by the company dollar-for-dollar.

The donation will be used for a housing project at Seenigama for displaced tsunami victims. The project will see 50 houses built under the 'Shop-House Concept' - each with a living area upstairs and shop space on the ground floor.

The cheque was presented by Area Manager, DHL Express, Emerging Markets - South Asia and Indochina Roger Pritchard to Ven. Jinarathana Thera of the Gangaramaya Temple at the tsunami housing project construction site in Seenigama.

"Country Manager for DHL Sri Lanka Chaminda Hewamallika said, "We have decided to support this initiative where affected families are provided with Shop-House apartments, since the apartments enable them to engage in business as a source of income, while residing in a safer area. We are extremely grateful to our colleagues from around the world who have donated funds towards the ongoing tsunami rehabilitation projects in countries such as Sri Lanka. DHL will continue to support the various tsunami rehabilitation projects in the future as well."

"As a global company and a corporate citizen, we are committed to assist countries wherein DHL has a presence with our logistical expertise and humanitarian aid during this time of need.

This translates into helping people educational facilities. We are happy to extend our support towards the community," Pritchard said.
