UNP PS member remanded

UNP member of the Yatinuwara Pradeshiya Sabha Sapumal Jayasinghe who was wanted by police in connection with the assault on the Kadugannawa station master and his wife, surrendered to Kandy Chief Magistrate Harsha Sethunga who remanded him till November 9.

Pradeshiya Sabha member and some others were alleged to have assaulted Kadugannawa station master S. Dissanayake and his wife at 9.45 p.m. on October 15 at their official residence when they protested against pasting of posters in support of UNP Presidential Candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe on the walls of their official residence.

When they protested, the suspects had allegedly assaulted the station master and his wife who were latter admitted to the Kandy General Hospital for treatment.

Since then PS member Jayasinghe was absconding. He surrendered to court through Attorney-at-Law Upali Bogahapitiya and was remanded till November 9.

OIC Kadugannawa police Shriyantha Peiris is conducting further investigations.
