Former UNP MP to support Prime Minister

Former UNP Member of Parliament for the Hanguranketha constituency Rohan Abeygunasekara has in a letter to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse pledged to support the latter at the Presidential election.

The son of a former UNP MP George Abeygunasekara, Rohan was a lecturer at the Peradeniya University before he entered into active politics succeeding his father. Abeygunasekara has stated in his letter to Rajapakse that he had been deeply involved in UNP politics for more than 20 years and has decided to support Rajapakse at the Presidential election.

He believed that Rajapakse is the most suitable candidate and he could find solutions to the problems of the country and the people. This letter was read out at the 'Dinawamu Sri Lanka' rally at Hanguranketha under the organisation of Chief Opposition Whip (UNP) of the Central Provincial Council and former Council Minister Saliya Bandara Dissanayake, the brother of S. B. Dissanayake now serving a jail term.

The letter was read out by Advanced Technology Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.

Meanwhile, Tissa Liyanagunawardana, the UNP Chairman of the Pelmadulla Pradeshiya Sabha, has expressed his fullest support to Prime Minister Rajapakse. He met the Premier yesterday and assured the support of the people of Pelmadulla for the UPFA's victory.
